Hello summer!

Monday is Victoria Day, which is a holiday here in Canada. Victoria Day weekend is more or less the kickoff to summer - the parks begin summer hours, the cottagers all open out their summer homes, and there are special extras in just about every little town. So we spent yesterday hanging out in tiny little Lyndhurst, where there was a travelling petting zoo....

Pascal and bunnies.
 ....magicians....
Gui being mystified. Actually, it was Gui protesting that it was just a trick - kid is a tough audience!
 ....kayaks and canoes...
Gui in a kayak. He says it is hard to steer.

Pascal in a canoe, convinced he's doing all the work even though his paddle barely touched the water.
We stopped at the Post, Lyndhursts little restaurant, open only in the summer when the tourists are out. Aetheline was happy with water (really helps that raspberry she's been working on)....
Happy baby.
The boys had ice cream, naturally.
Gui's first scoop fell off. He was much more careful in how he licked it after that.
We had a warm walk home, but livened it up with a little roadside nature study.
What is that lump they're checking out?

Hello Mr. Turtle! He kind of looks like a juvenile snapper to me, and actually tried to snap at Pascal. But maybe it's a wood turtle - any herpetologists out there?
Today I took the boys for their first swim in the local park (very local, just a few minutes down the road). They've got a lifetime of being pool-less city kids to recover from, but I have high hopes of turning them into swimmers before the summer is over. (sorry, no pictures, my camera batteries gave out!)

And tomorrow we'll have family over for a bonfire to make the day off a little extra special. Hello summer!
